Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Credits

During tax season, some of our past customers reach out with questions about Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Credits and Qualified Manufacturer Id (QMID).

Unfortunately, irrespective of insulation rating of your newly installed garage door, it is not eligible for Tax Credit. To be eligible, product should be Energy Star certified. As of date of this article, there are no any single Energy Star certified garage door manufacturer in the USA.

Search for Garage Doors in the database of certified products returns zero records: https://www.energystar.gov/

Here is formal response from C.H.I. Overhead Door manufacturer:

Dear Valued Customer,

Thank you for your inquiry regarding your recently purchased garage door and potential Energy Efficiency Home Improvement Credits. To be applicable for the Section 25C Energy Tax Credit under form 5695, exterior doors must be ENERGY STAR® and National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) certified. At this time, we do not have any approved products in the ENERGY STAR® program and therefore are not eligible for this credit and cannot provide you with a Qualified Manufacturer Identification Number.
